If you’re still wondering what will happen to software developers, I have the answer for you. Artificial Intelligence has disrupted software development, and the software developer profession will never be the same. So wake up and follow the evolution out of the burning forest.
The Challenge of Unique Business Needs
Precisely a year ago, when we finished a prototype for an HR tool, a nice gentleman from Belgium asked if we could add a transportation module to it. We thought we could simply add the pages and feature-flag it. Then someone else asked if we had an onboarding module for German companies.
I was once developing a CRM for a company that helps students study abroad. We took on this project thinking, “What more could there be? We’ve previously worked on similar systems for a loan comparison portal.” Instead of banks, we thought, we have universities. Oh man, we were wrong.
Reinventing the Wheel Every Time
All the same but different—that’s software. This is exactly why it takes a lot of time to develop, because every business is unique. So we are pushed to reinvent the wheel every time.
We got exhausted with this kind of nonsense. Why can’t we automate this? Fifty percent of this is CRUD (Create, Read, Update, and Delete) functionality—different kinds of attributes, same kinds of screens. If we know the query, then stats, charts, and reports can be automated. So we set out to automate 50% of software development and ended up with more.
Embracing AI to Automate Development
We were fortunate that our research aligned with the roadmap of Large Language Models (LLMs). With vinr AI, we were able to give it a friendly interface to take requirements and generate code, just like a product manager and software developer rolled into one. We tested with two use cases—one for retail and one for restaurants—and we were so impressed. We told ourselves, “Think about the limitless possibilities. What are we going to do with this superpower?”
Let’s help small and medium-sized businesses to digitalize in this fast-moving world.
Democratizing Technology for Everyone
Here we are, democratizing this technology for the betterment of the little guy. Because we can. Because we are not driven by money-hungry VCs; we are just a bunch of people running a small business in economic headwinds.
